about

I've been a huge fan of the early Burton/Swallow records for a long time. To me, they represent a "fourth stream" of jazz, combining elements of
folk, country and rock music into the jazz idiom. They pioneered a sound that was later popularized by Pat Metheny, but they were there first.
Chris Jones and I spent the Fall of 2011 recording and re-imagining some of our favorite early Burton/Swallow tracks - the ones in the "illegal" Real Book that no one knows. Some of our takes are vastly different from the original recordings, some not so much.
